31.9 doesn't sound at all right to me Reggit, even if your read-out doesn't flatter like everyone else's (by an unvarying 8.5% in my case). Surely a true 37 would be nearer the mark - and 42 on a longer motorway trip, based on your speed.
Yes, engine noise at idle and under acceleration at lower speed, accentuated by the fairly slushy box, is perhaps the only real disappointment with the D5, though mine (a 2008) sounds much nicer in warm weather. I'd understood the later versions were much improved?
