Before I bought my XC70, I test drove a 2008 and one 2011, both with D5 engines. The sound level in the older was significantly higher. It was like a small lorry in comparison.
I ended up buying a (then) new 2012 D5, with Polestar (230 hp 470 Nm).
I don't measure the range, but the consumption, as we do here. I can come down to indicated 7 l/100 km at normal driving, mainly rural. I can get it down to 6 l/100 km if I am really careful and think about ECO-driving all the time.
Right now, the trip computers shows signifcantly more, since I did a 1500 km trip towing a caravan a few weeks ago. With the caravan I reach 12 l/100 km.
