Majority of modern cars (say those built this century) are commodities/white goods, and should be treated as such. However the best builders of commodities are the Japanese (whether built in Japan or elsewhere), best Japanese car maker - Toyota.
And despite commoditisation people still buy labels not cars !!!
We've had more problems with our P2 V70* in 15 years than we had with our 32 year old 745 in the first 15 years of it's life - not sure what that says, but that's our experience. Ford are one of the most improved and are very underrated, my Wife has a 55 plate Focus (2.0 litre petrol) wagon, never failed an MoT and never an advisory - she'd have another.
Daughter had a Yaris - perfect.
