you will need either the part number from the existing alternator, or call up volvo and get it from your cars original spec. Lots of things seem to affect what was fitted to the car so it's the only sure fire way. This was discussed on a number of threads, and I don't recall anyone else coming up with a solution. Have your battery checked, and your aux belt and tensioner checked before you assume it's a bad alternator.
