Default Octane Requirements

The recent direction that Volvo had taken was to produce cars that require only a gasoline octane level of 87 of better, according to their owners manuals. I noticed that the 2018 model V90 Cross Country's and the new Cross Country V60's owner manuals indicate that these cars are now requiring a 91 octane or better fuel. This 91 octane fuel costs $0.60 more per gallon in the United States. This new octane requirement could be a deal-breaker if I decide to continue purchasing Volvos in the future. Note, I have been driving Volvos for the last 22+ years.
