The wipers come to rest on said protrusion and are prevented from dropping off the bottom of the lens.
Easily forgotten in a headlamp rebuild, or possibly long rusted away.

Hi yeah - they are both there but loose
Maybe I just need to get them adhered better?
I’ve also lost one of the supports that sits on the arm to stop the blade twisting - used tie wraps to strengthen
