When you say they come in different lengths, I'm a bit lost. Its normally the tie rod end, and that is screwed on to the inner tie rod, although maybe you have seen the complete unit listed as one part? Sometimes they come with the inner tie rod and tie rod end already screwed together in one piece?

I've searched various places like Eurocarparts and others and found inner track rods with different lengths. I was just wonder why this might be the case and does it matter which one I buy?
