And if not, what other warranty providers offer comparable cover for less money?
Volvo won't negotiate on price - they called today but their price isn't negotiable. As to whether the cover is comparable, see below.

Looking at the schemes I mentioned earlier my current thinking is:
Warrantywise: Whilst motorists champion Quentin Wilson might be a damn fine chap the fact they've not joined the Motor Ombudsman scheme doesn't fill me with confidence when they won't allow outside scrutiny of their claims decisions.
Motoreasy: I'm not impressed with their exception:
Repairing or replacing components identified by a suitably qualified engineer at any time, including but not limited to at the time of claim, as being faulty before this plan started.
How does that fit in with covering wear and tear? I can understand them wanting to protect against someone starting a plan knowing they have something about to break but it doesn't differentiate between a fault that's apparent or likely showing symptoms before the plan started and a fault that wouldn't be apparent until something goes bang! They also have some, not all, of the exclusions listed below for WD.
On a like for like basis (no excess, dealer rates) they' are about £150 cheaper than Volvo.
Warranty Direct: What's specifically excluded compared to Volvo might explain the price differential. The main ones being:
Flywheels damage by worn clutch plates, clutch release valve, gearbox mountings, electric traction motors (windows, wipers, mirrors, seats, locks?), heating elements (heater, seats, F&R screens?), xeon tubes, led bulbs, airbag itself(though system IS covered), lifting struts (tailgate?). Unlike Volvo they do cover the DPF but only after specialist cleaning at your expense.
Again about £150 cheaper than Volvo, like for like.

So I think I'm coming around to the view that although the most expensive Volvo probably offers the best cover. It excludes “normal” wear and tear but on a 4yr old premium car with full service history and only 32k miles on the clock would anything other than service items (which no scheme covers) fall into that category?

Car serviced and MOT'ed today with no problems. Asked the dealers about their experiences with extended warranty providers and there feedback was to the affect they're all a pain in the @rse, including Volvo though they're probably slightly better to claim from. If anyone in the trade (Clan or Marc?) has any thoughts I'd be interested in hearing them before I make a decision next week.
