The problem has been solved! The independent Volvo specialist said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, so I insisted the KIA dealership send it back to the official Volvo dealer.
Faulty fuel injector was the issue (why this wasn't picked up by the independent is beyond me) and the ECU needed a software upgrade too.
