Got a Nextbase dash cam and decided to hard wire it with the hardwire kit. First job is to select a fuse to provide power. The odd way the fusebox is angled behind the ashtray, meant the only place the power supply fixing would go, was the bottom left fuse, number 12 which is also the right amperage (15 amps) for camera. Take out the fuse, slot it into the fixing and slot the fixing back into the fusebox;
There are different sized fuses, so the kit has two types of fixing to chose from. Next, clip in the red wire which will then run round the footwell;
and the start to feed it round towards the A pillar. I just pushed it up under the very top of the footwell carpet and the bottom of the glove box trim;
The red wire handily is just long enough to get to teh A pillar corner of the foot well where it goes into a unit, which I also just pushed behind the trim;
Then remove this piece of trim from the footwell next to the door. Two torx T25 screws and the white bit of plastic holds it in place.
Two black wires come out of the unit, the thinner one is the earth. I loosened this bolt using a 10mm socket and slid the spade fitting into it, then re-tightened.
There is lots of space behind that bit of trim for the excess larger black cable, which is then run up behind the A pillar trim to the top of the windscreen. How to remove and refit that trim is here;

Running the cable from where it comes out the top of the A pillar and along the top of the windscreen is easy, as it pushes between the trim edge and roof lining;
The dash cam will now turn on and off automatically on starting and stopping the car. There is no ugly cable dangling down and using up the 12v lighter socket for power. I would take a photo of the finished job, but there is literally nothing to see. All of the cable is completely hidden from view till it pops out just behind the rear view mirror and into the dash cam, which has a sucker fitting to attach it to the screen.
