The charger is only 7A, the battery has been on charge for a day. The charger indicates it is fully charged, it's holding it at 13.28V according to my multimeter.

13.8 v is too low for charging it , it should be around 14.2 or a little more unless you mean that is the voltage after the battery has been standing un connected overnight?
Yes the alternator is direct gear drive from the crankshaft , there is a rubber coupling which was supposed to have a change interval of 144000 miles , but with the passage of time and miles they have now said it does not need changing ..
