When it is actually charging the battery, the voltage is 14.4V. Once fully charged, it drops it to a lower maintenance level.
The cheaper (Maypole) 5A charger I have connected to my Saab 9-3 convertible does pretty much the same; it applies 14.4V to a partially discharged battery and then maintains a voltage of 13.4V
