xc90 D5 manual 2003 rear diff noise ?
Hi, I have a 2003 xc90 D5 manual with 145K on the clock.
I am getting a wheel bearing type noise from the rear wondering if it is the diff but cant be sure.
Rear tyres are worn but not choppy or miss shapen
Had it on the ramp running in 5th with all wheels spinning and listened to the hubs with a stethoscope and wheel bearings all seem fine.
Also listened to the diff which did seem noisy but no worse than the front one.
Noise doesn't seem to change when cornering, it is a bit intermittent and seems to vary with road surface
Thinking I might try it with a different pair of wheels on the back, also might disconnect the prop front and rear and try that.
If it is the diff I assume that the noise would change between under load, coasting and slowing under engine braking ?
Cant say it is that common rear diffs wearing out on these ?
