Apologies for the very delayed reply. I did try and have a look at the fuel filter but it seemed to be inside a metal housing so I couldn’t tell. The car had been absolutely spot on for the last month as well so I put the previous cutting out incident down to a one off/ cold damp weather/ running low on diesel. However the week before last on Monday the car was back to its old tricks again. When I started the car on Monday to drive to work it was running very rough, sounded like an old tractor and felt very sluggish. About 10 mins into my journey to work (10 miles, mix of stop start traffic and a dual carriageway stretch) the car completely cut out on me as I was turning right on a busy road. Luckily the car started again straight away but it was not nice at all. I’ve now brought an OBD reader after seeing they were an Aldi special buy the other week in the hope that if it plays up I can at least scan it and get a code, so I pulled over onto a side road and scanned the car straight a way for fault codes but nothing came up.
I carried on with my journey as I was running a bit later and about 5 minutes later the car completely cut out again as I was approaching a set of traffic lights. As the traffic was absolutely standstill, I managed to quickly plug the code reader I. Again and scanned the car while it was sat in traffic. No fault codes again. Both times the car started again perfectly with no issues so I carried on and managed to get to work and then immediately called the garage who fitted the replacement fuel filter and did the DPF regeneration and took the car into them that day. After 2 days of checking, diagnostic reads, fuel injectors and the fuel pump they told me they couldn’t find anything wrong with the car at all. Not very happy with this and wanting a 3rd opinion (the car has already been to two garages now) I decided to take the car to a Volvo specialist who’d been recommended to my by my in laws. Long story short, 3 days, various Vida checks and a software update later and they are unable to find any faults with my car.
I am absolutely at my wits end with this now, does anyone have any ideas of other things that could be checked before I get rid of the car? I have used my car once in the last week (it drove fine) and have been getting the train to work instead as quite frankly, i don’t feel safe driving it. I brought a Volvo thinking it would be reliable and solid and so far it has been far from that. My
Old Ford Focus was more reliable than this car!
