Default Checking steering pump health after ripped belt

Was driving on the highway, heard some whipping noises in the engine bay.
When i took an exit to check the sound, the power steering was gone. Turned out the belt was shredded .
Ive been extremely lucky that it didnt caught the cam belt, checked the alternator, steering pump and the pulleys which all seemed fine.
This surprises me , yes happy that the damage is maximum contained to the belt. But i expected the belt to rip because of a stuck pully alternator or steering pump(aircon pump wasnt used and free)because 50000 km and 5 years is way to early to rip a belt.

It was a gates belt are there any other brands with solid track records?

And is the steeringpump to be checked on damage? it runs smooth but with a slight click noise if you reverse the direction of the pulley
