Ideal for a hobbyist, there are a select few people that understand the system, but personally I'd buy the car and drive it - it'll be fairly obvious if something is wrong, ie. very high rpm at low speeds. I am one of those who thoroughly understand them having worked on the 343 and 66 CVT and all the DAF cars from 1976 until they disappeared around 20 years ago .
