I didn't have problems with water pooling below the hinges. I had problems with water landing on the hinges themselves, then following them into the openings and into the roof.
The round plugs below the hinges aren't leaking on my car. Water does pool there, but that doesn't seem to matter.
But of course, Britain isn't famous for the sunny weather...
