In other words, it does nothing to stiffen the back axle, just helps prevent the body roll. The thicker it is, the greater the resistance to twisting along its length and therefore the greater the resistance to the trailing arms moving independently and less body roll.

Yer i understand that. But if you look at the front it moves through bushes. The rear just bolts on either side and had no way of contacting the chassis or something on the car that doesn't move with suspension.
If you look at any race cars they will all contact the chassis and the ends connect to the suspension arms. I'm not saying its not a arb but it won't be anywhere near as good as the one on the front.
What spring are you running and ahocms may I ask.
