What is so wrong with being law-abiding? If you intentionally go through a red light when it is possible to stop safely, then you are breaking the law. The Highway Code is very clear on the matter.

The only exception might be in the event of lights malfunctioning with both showing red, in which case it may be sensible for someone to direct the traffic until the Police arrive.
