We do sometimes ask preliminary questions at quote stage in order to avoid what you have described, but asking those questions is not always conclusive. This is because insurers can change their rates and criteria frequently. The list of exclusions can also be lengthy and not always applicable. The most thorough way of quoting is to take down
all of the details but we appreciate that can take longer.
