D5's will log cam sensor faults with prolonged cranking of engine without starting even if it isn't that at fault,
If timings ok and fuel rail pressures ok i would just make sure egr valve isn't stuck open,
Easy to check just remove elbow pipe to manifold and crank engine,
Might also be worth checking coolant temp sensor readings with a warm engine
