+1 In this day and age, all cars have become electronic devices and the first thing that you need to do if they malfunction is to plug in the appropriate OBD2 diagnostic test equipment. The DiCE connector cable which allows you to run and use Volvo's own VIDA testing software is available on the internet for less than the cost of a diagnostic session at a main dealer. It runs primarily under Windows 7 on a laptop and you can set it up on a virtual Windows 7 operating system on any laptop if you install something like Oracle VM VirtualBox which is free software. The advantage of using the Volvo software rather than a generic reader is that VIDA is immensely powerful and contains repair advice and spare part lists and also allows you to select options for your car which cannot be accessed from the car's display panel. It's what the Volvo dealer uses and allows you to know what he is going to tell you before you take the car in if you cannot do the work yourself. If you are posting on this forum, you are the sort of owner who should have a VIDA/DiCE. It's as necessary as a set of spanners!
