Default Service Light Reset Tool

The service light had been illuminated on my 850 for months, and today I finally got round to sorting it. Having researched the available options, I concluded that the Draper Expert tool (stock code 69007) was probably the quickest and cheapest option to go for. Yes there are ELM327 OBD plugs and apps etc, but there are many ELM327 units on the market of questionable quality. One of the local hardware stores is a Draper stockist, so I popped in to see if they had the tool. They are known for having some rare and potentially hard to find items in stock.

Having searched the place high and low with no luck, I decided to have a look through some of the old dusty boxes on the lower shelves. Many of these have no packaging, so it's just a pile of blue plastic boxes that could contain anything. I eventually discovered a Draper Service Light reset tool amongst the pile. It stated that it was suitable for BMW, VW, Mercedes and Volvo. Upon opening the box I found the instruction manual, which clearly stated that the tool would reset the service lights on 800 series and early 70 series cars. I had never came across any posts or information about this tool online in relation to resetting Volvo service lights. As far as I could tell the only Draper tool suitable for the task was the 69007. After making enquiries about the tool, I discovered that the original list price was nearly £300! A considerable amount to invest in a tool that only resets service lights. Some bargaining later and I left the store with the tool at well below cost price due to its discontinued status. It took all of 2 minutes to reset the service light on my 1996 850. If anyone in Northern Ireland wants to try it out on their car, give me a shout on here. For reference the Draper part number is 63156.
