I have a 2004 2.4d XC90 with failed angle gear or sleeve. Prop turns easily by hand. I am looking into getting a second hand gear and the later updated sleeve new. I see many gears from 2005 on saying later type. Is it just the sleeve that was updated or are these 2005 up to the seven bolt unit of 2007 stronger and backwards compatible? I assume the 7 bolt is definitely not usable on a 2004. Any advice appreciated. Have not removed unit yet so don’t know if my gear is damaged but don’t want to wait around if I find it is.
