Judging by the black remaining around the parking light openings a previous owner was really lazy when stripping the anodizing. The dyes used with anodizing do fade (my 142 E grill was quite faded); but, not to the point like on that grill and headlight surrounds. The back-yard hack for removing anodizing was to apply a spray on oven cleaner that contains lye.

If you want to refresh the grill and surrounds there is no need to strip the anodizing. After removing the inevitable dents, cleaning with soda blast and then a black satin powder coat (or durable satin paint) did wonders for the appearance of my grill and surrounds.
