As far as i've always been aware Mark, the matrices for A/C and non-A/C have always been different. A quick phone call to Volvo might well confirm the answer but i'm fairly sure i'm right.
Worth saving the valve though in case yours fails, you can bypass the original and fit the A/C heater valve under the bonnet with a vacuum feed to it to close it in hot weather.
