Default No gadget required

If you remove the electric servo motor (once the caliper is removed) you can manually rewind the EPB drive by turning the splined socket in the centre clockwise - a size 8 'spline bit' if I recall. Retract the piston with a 'G cramp' and reassemble the brakes with the new pads.

Engage the EPB a couple of times - you will hear the motor pushing the piston back into place for longer than usual on the first go.

Job done - no gadget or software uploads.

There's clearly more to it than this - axle stands, jack, wheel chocks, copper grease and so on - I'm just pointing out that it can be done manually without the electronics.
