My opinion is in future, older cars will be taxed to the hilt (more than now), which will basically force the owner's of them to get rid of them or trade them in for something newer/more environmentally friendly. Its unlikely that someone with an old car is going to keep paying through the roof to have it on the road, when there's newer alternatives that'll be a fraction of the cost because they meet emissions standards for these clean air zones.

EV's will pay £180 next year. That's still half of what an older diesel pays now, or even more than half for those vehicles paying the £695 per year currently.
