Did you check for any air leaks in the air intake pipe where the map sensors are located as this could cause an inaccurate reading

Now I’m no expert on autos but I can only assume that the kickdown is activated by a number of sensors one being throttle position then probably a speed sensor and also inlet vacuum pressure therefore if the map sensor is shot this will not be sending the correct info to ecm to activate the kickdown this is purely a theory of mine and I can not confirm this as factual just my 2 pence
