Amazing that the original camshaft, for example, is not worn outside of allowable range -- at all. Incredible really.

Castrol GTX 10w30 (manual's viscosity spec) was the first choice I had/have.
Just can't find that.

I understand the more resistant it is to thinning, then the higher the second number (10W-40 versus 10W-30, for example). Ultimately my understanding is that is a good thing, right ?..
Because within reason, thicker oil generally seals better and maintains a better film of lubrication between moving parts.

I guess cold climes such as Scotland would make 20w50 about perfect in that case?
..London winter is some-may-say 'softer' (unless coastal..anyway that's a debate for another day)
..so thinking the 10w40 Fuchs or similar be the goods!

Cheers

Cold climates need thinner oil. It isnt quite as simple as the viscosity numbers, but by and large. See here regarding hths and other technical stuff, https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=283503 I made an oil thread to try and prevent threads like this getting clogged up with waffle! 20w50 would be ratger inappropriate for an enigine built around 10w30.
