Any comments would be much appreciated
which engine have you? The B14 has the easiest steering as it has a touch of positive camber, the 1.7 and 2 litre have negative camber which does not help . , yes tyre pressure was designated at 28 psi which is far too low you need 35 psi which will make a noticeable improvement and If you fit new tyres you get that magnitude of improvement again .

Power steering was on the 2 litre GLT from 1987 although light i did not like the lack of feel . You can fit it's power steering rack and column , but there is an alloy block which the end of the rack sits in on the left side mounting , all these parts are rare now . Fitting the pump and reservoir to the engine is the easiest part ! The parts catalogue even listed parts for the B14 for some markets ..

Try 35 psi and new tyres first though 155 x 13 were the original fitment on the 340 with B14 , if someone has fitted 175 or 185 that will spoil the steering feel too .
