Good heavens, is it really 40 years? I remember looking at them admiringly when they came out.

That means the very first ones can apply for historic vehicle status at the end of the year in which they turn 40 and then running costs plummet as car tax and MOT are no more. That starts to make them very inexpensive classics to own and run.
