Yeah I get how it works. The button is just a momentary switch which is detected by a micro-controller somewhere.
What I can't fathom is why the switch works perfectly when tested with a multimeter, but not when plugged into the car.
Apart from the error message on the dash I mentioned in my previous post, everything else on the car works perfectly.
