It is a subjective view, of course, as to what is the nicest to drive.
From one stand point yes a 1970's car will be nicer, or easier to drive than a 1960's car, but so can be said of 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, and hence a 2018 car.
For me the P1800 and early 1800S are great in part due to their character. Of course there are oddities like the overdrive switch being a dashboard mounted unit, the headlight dip-switch being floor mounted, and no heated rear window, but these add character in my eyes.
The dashboard design is not as "safe", and the front seats don't lock.
But.......
whichever, enjoy the P1800/1800S/1800E/1800ES series!
