I changed the head gasket on a 1984 VW polo 1272cc in a lunch time in my work car park once
left the manifolds attached to the head so you only need to undo the down pipe, head bolts, rocker cover and a few wires and 2 cables and 2 clips on the cambelt cover and loosen the water pump bolts which tensions the cam belt.
