Volvo do conduct revisions, from the service point of view, when they are designing new models. Especially things that need access during regular maintenance are considered, since they don't want to show up in tests with a high service cost for no good reason.
But in most tests, by car magazines and similar, they don't show the cost of replacing the thermostat. Most probably due to the fact that with all sensible designs, it's a simple job.
I've not studied in detail why they moved it from the upper front left side location on the engine to one you can hardly even see, let alone reach to.
