I have a '92 480, changed the engine with one from a totalled '95er . The red dipstick used about 1ltr every 750km, the '95 doesn't use one drop. Volvo did a good job, but should have done that right away! It costed them a whole lot of money and for the owners a lot of irritation and nuisance.
I didn't know of the yellow marking though.

my '73 ES also has a (redblock) B20F. The output is almost identical with that of the '95!
