The insurance companies may keep better data that can be searched. But there are lots of insurance companies, so does Volvo pay them to keep a trace on their records and report back?

I can assure you that the 'paperwork' involved when there is a fatality is far beyond just writing the car make on a written form. the cars full details including colour and even what luggage it was carrying goes into the investigation report which will at a later date be made available to certain orgs including MIB, roads planning and car manufacturers so they can learn how to make cars and roads safer
