The fuel will be OK, besides the old pushrod engines will tolerate and thrive on fairly poor fuel. The Stromberg carbs are best left alone; replaced diaphragms? Dash pots filled with 3 in 1 or similar?
The metering needles in carbs may be worn although that would occur slowly over time; fuel bowl floats set right? Linkages set up right? Could be lots of things but I always veer towards an electrical problem rather than a fuel one.
