There's quite a variety of possibilities out there, I'm no expert but, there's what one might call a basic conical headed bolt like a countersunk wood screw (with various taper angles), a spherical headed bolt where the 'taper' is ball shaped, or some with a flat connecting surface like a captive washer.
Using the wrong one would seriously compromise the fitting regardless of the type of the tyre.
