I will never know if this did any good, but within an hour, the gentleman at "Customer Support" who had e-mailed the "25% last offer", phoned me to say they they had had a "Re-think" and would cover the full 100% of any subsequent issues. He backed this up by e-mail to both the dealer and me.
So we are booked in for the update tomorrow. Wish me luck.

P.S. Andy, how long did it take to actually install the updated maps. They tell me it can take up to 2 hours, so I guess I will need to go on a couple of long drives, as the car has to be running while the updates take place.

It will take about 1.5 hours for the 18 Gb map files and you can stop and start, it carries on where it left off ....
