My 2006 XC70 auto D5 manages mid to high 30s on a sensible steady run and 30 plus or minus a couple on commute, mixed but slow in town. I find it hard to believe that a petrol auto will match or better it.
I’d guess at low to mid 30s on a run and 25 to 28 commute. If it’s not turboed then maybe slightly better.
