I checked my 2.4t a few times over the years and 60k miles and on a long run at 70mph mainly motorways with cruise control on and well loaded up, it does between 30 and 31mpg.
Never checked it on shorter runs or town work, as my time would probably be better spent looking for something cheaper to run rather than worrying about that!
In fairness, I think that's pretty reasonable for a petrol car that size and weight, bearing in mind it's technology is now 17 old.
