You don’t need to if you’re only lowering 40mm. I think my new wheels are an inch wider IIRC (7inch wide now) but there’s no issue with the axle positioning - it might be to one side slightly but only a few mm if anything . Any lower than 40mm or if you’re going to go mega wide on the wheels and you might need an adjustable one.
