Possibly...but not being able to physically inspect a vehicle is the trouble with trying to advise someone over the internet. It just goes to show the original MAF was actually picking up on the underlying problem and throwing up the error code.
As the others have said...really glad to hear you got it sorted in the end! Time to enjoy it some!
