Ok, looks like I’m using the wrong terminology and am in danger of confusing people- yes I mean the link rod as you call it, I have been referring to it as the steering column, but I can see that could confuse.

For the avoidance of doubt, you don’t need to change anything inside the car. Under the bonnet you can see a rod between two universal joints, you need one of these from a power steering car. Clifford calls it a link rod, I’ve been calling it a steering column... anyway, that bit.
