Default You are not alone ...

Good morning, Stephen,

So far this calendar year, 2021, my V70 has completed 400 miles and my (whisper it) Saab convertible 392 miles. Although she doesn't keep such detailed records, Linda will have done a similar number in her Saab 9000. In the last full FY, (01.04.20 - 31.03.21) my V70 did 418 and my Saab 341.

In the last full calendar year (2020), my Volvo covered 713 miles and my operating costs (excluding depreciation) were £748.47, which equates to a cost per mile of £1.0497. Of that, £150 (20.04%) was for petrol.

Corresponding figures for the Saab (which is in the highest tax bracket) were 614 and £1069.48 - a cost per mile of £1.7418. Once again, £150 (14.03%) was for petrol.

If we aggregate the above figures, my motoring costs for the year were £1817.95 over 1327 miles, or £1.3700 per mile travelled.

Sometimes I wish that I did not keep quite such detailed records - it is not good for my blood pressure!

I hope that you are well.

Regards, John.
