Hi.

I have a xc90 2005 d5 auto which is misbehaving. It is choosing a gear at odd times. Other times the gear changes are a bit harsh. These are not all the time. The most common symtom is when i am sat in traffic in drive but foot on brake. When i lift the brake its takes 2 or 3 seconds to move forward and does it with a jolt.
Then today i was at lights when a service transmission message appeared and i was stuck in 3rd or 4th. The D on the dash turned to - and when i tried to change gear the manual way it wouldnt allow me to. I parked at supermarket for 30 mins. Message was gone upon return and gearbox was back to being a little rough and irratic.

I have checked fluid which seems ok and it is not noisy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix.
