Further update: after seeing the engine management light go off, I did the glove test again and it's sucking! I think driving the car has shifted whatever was left in those lower pipes. It's not ideal but I assume another oil change within the next 1000 miles would be sensible or do I still need to drop that oil pan? All I'm getting now is a bit of smoke under deccelaration from motorway speed and error codes P0171 and P0172.
