Just had a cylinder head fail, XC60 2ltr Diesel, 5 cyl, and 80,000 miles.
Caused by hydraulic tappets ceasing. New head needed.
The failure was preceded over a month or so by increasing fuel consumption, wrongly assumed to be more local mileage, and increased clackety diesel noise for a few weeks before catastrophic failure and no.4 piston "misfiring".
Initially assumed it was an injector fault until head inspected.
Is this a common failure mode?
